The Russian authorities do not plan to tighten government policy. Our country will not return to totalitarianism, stressed Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko in an interview with RIA Novosti.

The Chairman of the Federation Council made this statement in response to a question about how she felt about the emotional wishes voiced after the terrorist attack in Crocus City Hall to tighten the country’s legislation in a variety of areas.

“A return to a totalitarian state is impossible and unacceptable. We already have historical experience, and we know how long and difficult it was for us to get rid of the consequences. And second. A totalitarian state can never exist in the 21st century in countries that are committed to development. Russia is committed to development. We must create free conditions for economic development, for small and medium-sized businesses, for the creative intelligentsia, and so on. So don’t worry, there won’t be any tightening of the screws,” Matvienko said.

The head of the Federation Council also stated the need to create conditions for the return to the country of our compatriots who, having gone abroad, did not oppose Russia. The reasons for their departure were very different – study, work, and simply the search for a happier life.

“We are an open country, we are not going to hang a lock or prohibit entry into our country, except for those who are prohibited from entering for objective reasons. We are waiting for our people to come home,” the speaker said.

At the same time, she added that there are also citizens who not only left their country, but continue to throw mud at it and wish it defeat. If they return, it is necessary to bring such people to justice, concluded Valentina Matvienko.
