Today, April 25, the grand opening of Academician Legasov’s park took place in the Northern Manor microdistrict.

The event was attended by the head of the city of Tula Olga Slyusareva, the deputy head of the administration of the city of Tula Inessa Feldman, the daughter of the Hero of Russia Inga Legasova, Doctor of Biological Sciences, colleague of Academician Legasov Robert Ilyazov, the chairman of the Tula regional public organization of disabled people “Chernobyl Union” Vladimir Naumov, the liquidators of the accident at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Tula Region, schoolchildren, students, residents of the microdistrict.

In December 2023, deputies of the Tula City Duma unanimously supported the decision to name a square in the Severnaya Myza microdistrict named after Academician Legasov, which was transferred by the developer to the balance of the municipality. The new square is a point of attraction for residents of the new microdistrict. Moreover, people of any age find a place to their liking here – children, youth, and older people. The river bed runs through the entire territory of the park as a symbol of life; the artificial reservoir is planned to be launched on May 1.

– It is no coincidence that the square was named after academician Valery Legasov, who fought for the preservation of life on earth. A square in memory of the Hero of Russia, our fellow countryman, appeared in Northern Manor on the initiative of Governor Alexei Dyumin. I would like the residents of the microdistrict, walking here, to stop near the memorable place and remember the feat of our great fellow countryman. 38 years ago, the liquidators saved the world: if not for their feat, new generations might not have been born. History is made by personalities – Valery Legasov was a Personality. A person who, in addition to knowledge, had an analytical mind, the ability to make decisions, courage and heroism. On the eve of the anniversary of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, we address special words of gratitude to all the liquidators,” Deputy Head of the Tula City Administration Inessa Feldman addressed the audience.

Inga Legasova thanked everyone present for the kind words and preserving the memory of her father.

At the end of the ceremony, a minute of silence was declared. Those present laid flowers at the bas-relief of Valery Legasov.

These days the International Scientific and Practical Conference “Academician V.A.” is taking place in Tula. Legasov and modernity”. The opening of the park coincides with the forum.
