In Samara, in the last days of the city improvement month, active seasonal work continues. The municipal enterprise “Spetsremstroyzelenkhoz” began planting annual flowers in iconic locations and public spaces, which are traditionally among the first to be prepared for the May holidays.

Memory Square and Victory Square, the Alley of Labor Glory and Young Pioneers Avenue, Victory Park and Molodezhny Park – these and other areas will first of all be decorated with flower beds. On April 25, annual plants grown in municipal greenhouses continued to be planted in one of the public gardens near Kuibyshev Square.

“It is planned that at the first stage, by May 9, about six thousand square meters of territory will be decorated with flowers, of which three thousand “squares” will be in parks and along the streets, and another three thousand will be in city parks and on the Samara embankment. The entire volume of work should be completed by the third ten days of June. Dates may vary depending on weather conditions. Return frosts are still possible in May. A stable temperature and warmth are necessary, then the plants will take root well. This mainly applies to those flowers that are planted by seedlings. “They are more sensitive to weather changes,” noted the head of the department for landscaping and landscaping of the improvement department of the department of urban management and ecology of the Samara administration. Leonid Dyugaev.

This year, the area of flower beds in city public spaces, along streets, including on dividing lawns, and in the area of transport interchanges, will amount to 38.7 thousand square meters. Every year, flowers are planted under the Blooming City municipal program. The area of flower beds is increasing – over the entire period of implementation of the program they have almost doubled. For this season, starting in December 2023, the greenhouses of Spetsremstroyzelenkhoz prepared 40 species of annual plants – more than 1.3 million in total.

“In addition, last year, in the fall, bulbous plants were planted on an area of almost 2.5 thousand square meters – tulips, which are already delighting with their flowering, and daffodils, which will open their buds during the May holidays. In the fall, such plantings are also planned in September and October,” added Leonid Dyugaev.

Vertical and mobile gardening is provided. In particular, pots with hanging plants will be installed along guest and tourist routes. For this purpose, over 23 thousand flowers were prepared. If necessary, use more. Cascades, bridges, tubs and other structures will be decorated throughout the city.

Experts have their own methods and secrets to make the city flourish in the shortest possible time. For example, they try to ensure that the plants form buds before transplanting. Preference is given to the hardiest species and varieties that are perfectly adapted to the local climate.

– Tomorrow we will plant viola – we will start with Krasnoarmeyskaya. Cineraria, begonia, petunia, tagetes, catharanthus, salvia and others also take root well. There is a large assortment of flowers. We have them ready for planting from cassettes or pots – in the greenhouse they are already in a blooming state, that is, with fully open buds or with half-open buds. These plants are mature, can easily adapt to the urban environment and immediately delight city residents. We are not planting those plants that are not yet blooming,” explained an engineer from the production and technical department of the Spetsremstroyzelenkhoz enterprise. Nadezhda Malykhina.

This year we will not do without cannas, which are valued not only for their spectacular flowering, but also for their large leaf plates, painted in green, bronze-red, purple or violet shades. Cannas can bloom until frost. In the coming season there will be 1/5 more such beauty than in the past.

New items are also being prepared for planting, for example, ivy-shaped terry pelargonium and terry bidens. After new species and varieties are introduced into urban gardening as an experiment, experts evaluate how resistant these flowers are to anthropogenic load, climatic conditions, etc.

To keep flower beds pleasing to the eye throughout the season, they are regularly watered, the soil is loosened, weeded, faded flower stalks are removed, and reserve flowers are replanted if necessary.

“I would like residents to understand how much work is put into preparing planting material while we are cultivating it, how much effort is put into creating flower beds throughout the city. We kindly ask you not to trample the flower beds, not to pick flowers, and not to dig them up for your dachas. Let everyone admire this blooming beauty in spring, summer, and early autumn,” Nadezhda Malykhina addressed the townspeople.
