A flower-laying ceremony was held near the People’s House, where a memorial plaque to the hero was installed. Alexander Yakovlevich Untilov died in 2019, literally a month and a half before his 100th birthday.
Until his last day, the veteran did not leave his workplace at the Veterans Council, communicated with young people, and resolved social issues. During the Great Patriotic War, he served as a sapper in a mine demolition platoon and fought near Kozelsk and Sukhinichi. Then there were Kursk, Ukraine, Belarus, Koenigsberg.
Alexander was originally from the Novosibirsk region, but lived most of his life in Kaluga, he liked our city so much.
The head of the city government, Yuri Moiseev, also remembers the veteran:
This is a truly wise, competent, courteous, well-mannered, intelligent person. It is truly a great honor for me that I knew him not only through work, but also through life, that Alexander Yakovlevich devoted his precious time to me.
