In 2020, eight patients were treated for the disease at the institution, in 2021 – 13, in 2022 – 11, in 2023 – 18.

St. Petersburg residents were warned that if their health worsens and they contact a doctor, they should be warned about visiting a malaria-prone region. There are cases when the incubation period for the development of the disease reaches three years.

In 2024, the disease claimed the life of a woman. She arrived in Russia on December 22, and on New Year’s Eve she complained of feeling very bad. In the morning, the sick woman called the doctor, but warned him that she was in Africa for work.

Before the trip, she was vaccinated against yellow fever; she also received recommendations for the prevention of malaria and a list of drugs that were not sold in the Northern capital. She did not use the ointment only once and on the same day she noticed two small mosquito bites.

Earlier, 78.ru wrote that an infectious disease doctor told how to detect and treat malaria.
