In Sevastopol, criminal investigation officers detained a 53-year-old repeat offender suspected of stealing household appliances from a new friend.

According to the press service of the city Department of Internal Affairs, a 37-year-old resident of Sevastopol met a man and his girlfriend on the street and invited them to her home. During a feast on the occasion of their acquaintance, she invited the couple to stay with her.

The man noticed that the owner of the apartment was partial to alcohol, and decided to turn this to his advantage. While the hospitable hostess was drinking and not paying attention to what was happening, the man gradually sold off her household appliances. Over the course of several weeks, he stole and sold a refrigerator, television, gas stove, dishwasher and mobile phone. The total amount of damage caused exceeded 60 thousand rubles.

“After selling the stolen equipment, the guest, as if nothing had happened, got ready and left for Simferopol with his girlfriend. There he committed another theft, and then returned to Sevastopol again, looking for a new place of residence,” the press service said.

After some time, the victim noticed the absence of household appliances and contacted the police to report the theft. Criminal investigation officers identified and detained the suspect.

A criminal case has been opened against the man under the article “Theft”; he may face imprisonment for up to five years.
