Ex-deputy of the Astrakhan City Duma received a sentence for drug trafficking

In Astrakhan, the court found former City Duma deputy Rudolf Shabanyan guilty of attempted illegal sale of drugs committed on a large scale.

The “people’s choice” bought a synthetic drug for further distribution and began to keep it with him. In September last year, the drug was seized from illicit trafficking by law enforcement officials.

The sentence is seven and a half years in a maximum security colony. The defendant faced 10 to 20 years in prison, but the court agreed with the position of the state prosecution and imposed a sentence below the lower limit.

The criminal case was investigated by the investigative department for the Sovetsky district of Astrakhan of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Astrakhan region.
