In Orenburg, soil is being removed from the dam on Cherepanov Street | 04/25/2024 | Orenburg News

--

The dismantling of the embankment dam on the embankment of the regional center continues, the city administration reported.

Today, April 25, soil is being removed from the fortification sites on Cherepanov Street. The work involved the efforts and resources of the municipal enterprise “Komservice” and attracted equipment. The dam was dismantled earlier.

As Orenburg Media wrote, the dam was installed in mid-April, when there was a risk of the Urals overflowing into the areas of Chicherina and Arenda streets. The water-filling dam was reinforced with soil and clay. Thanks to her, utility services gained almost a day and a half to make the remaining fortifications on the shore.

River levels near Orenburg have been falling for several days. Both the Urals and Sakmara fell below critical levels. At the same time, thousands of houses in Orenburg, Orenburgsky district, Sakmarsky district and Orsk are still standing in water. It should be noted that the 2024 flood is called one of the largest in the history of observations and the most serious since 1957. In total, 89 square kilometers of the city area were flooded in Orenburg during the flood days. This is about a third of the entire territory. More than 6,500 households were affected. The water entered several multi-storey blocks.
