The Ulyanovsk branch of the Union of Artists of Russia reported on social networks that in the Platov Museum at the address: st. Goncharova, 16, the ceiling collapsed. The art gallery on the second floor is temporarily closed due to this.
− In the art gallery of the Union of Artists of Russia, which belongs to the Plastov Museum (a cultural heritage site of local significance “Simbirsk First Higher Primary School”), elements of the ceiling decoration collapsed. A commission with the participation of JV Spetsproektrestavratsiya LLC carried out a visual inspection, − said in the message.
Based on the results of the inspection and on behalf of the head of the regional Ministry of Art and Cultural Policy, Evgenia Sidorova, it was decided to conduct an examination to identify the causes of the collapse.
According to preliminary estimates by experts, the repairs will cost approximately 30 million rubles. A more exact amount will be announced after the examination.
To stop further destruction, the gallery was closed for a while. Some of the exhibits are ready to be accepted in the Ulyanovsk Regional Art Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts, the Palace of Books, the Youth Center for Contemporary Art, in the halls of the airport, the Volga Hotel, in libraries and schools of Ulyanovsk.
The artists objected to the placement of paintings at the airport, concerned about the safety of the paintings.
In the comments to the post, the director of the art museum, Anna Carvalheiro, explained that we are not talking about works from the fund and not about particularly valuable exhibits. The museum halls will take them.
Mobile exhibitions that do not require temperature and humidity conditions will be transferred to the airport.
− How do artists place their works on Arbat, on pedestrian streets in other cities, in art salons, in hotel galleries and simply in the interiors of their apartments? Artists at airports and train stations attract attention to their work, − noted Anna Carvaleiro.
