EcoIntegrator will recalculate payments for waste removal to residents of the Arkhangelsk Islands due to seasonal conditions

On the islands of Kegostrov, Khabarka and Brevennik, the relocation operator was forced to suspend waste removal due to the lack of temporary storage points and the seasonal cessation of navigation.

The regional operator currently operates 17 temporary waste storage points. All of them are located in hard-to-reach areas of the Arkhangelsk region and are approved by the waste management scheme. DTPs are places specially equipped by local administrations where garbage trucks transport waste from container sites for temporary storage. As a rule, EcoIntegrator uses PVN in the off-season: from October to December and from the end of March to May. Sites are cleared in summer and winter using ferries and ice roads.

For example, on the islands of Ascension, Lastola and Pustosh in the Primorsky region there are no problems with waste removal. These areas have temporary waste collection areas. On the islands of Arkhangelsk the situation is the opposite. It was planned to begin work on equipping the air defense equipment in the summer of last year, but then the municipality did not have it. As a result, there is nowhere to take out garbage on the islands themselves, and navigation has not yet opened.

“We are looking for ways to work in such conditions. Now the operator has organized waste collection on the other side of the islands. You can throw away bags of garbage in a container that we have installed near the tug’s arrival point. We remove waste from it daily. Also, in order to curb littering of the islands, we handed over big bags to the management companies – special, thick, large-volume bags. They will remove the garbage that currently lies next to the container sites. Until the resumption of regular waste removal on the Arkhangelsk islands, there will be no charges, – says Evgeniy Shidlovsky, acting director of EcoIntegrator.

The reoperator will begin removing the waste accumulated on Kegostrov, Khabarka and Brevennika as soon as the ice drift ends and ferry crossings become available.
