Voronezh defender and Great Patriotic War veteran Alexey Apalkov died at the age of 101, the city administration reported.

Alexey Fedorovich was a member of the Voronezh volunteer communist regiment and took part in the battles, despite being wounded. He also passed through Stalingrad and the Kursk Bulge.

Alexey Apalkov had many awards: the Order of the Patriotic War, 1st degree, two medals “For Courage”, medals “For the capture of Budapest”, “For the capture of Vienna”, “For victory over Germany”. In February, the former soldier celebrated his centenary.

Earlier, the last WWII veteran from the Povorinsky district died.
