The leaders in total fertility rate at the end of 2023 in the Central Federal District (CFD) were Tula, Lipetsk and Kostroma; overall, the fertility rate in the CFD increased by 0.2%. This was announced by First Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Protection of Russia Olga Batalina at the all-Russian conference “Russia is a big family of big families. Large families as the new norm,” reports TASS.

“The total fertility rate at the end of 2023 has remained virtually unchanged, but in the Central Federal District, while in Russia as a whole it decreased by 0.4%, the trend reversed and it increased. Let it be 0.2% – what is important here is not the value, but the fact that we are changing the situation in the constituent entities of the Russian Federation step by step. And it’s nice to name the leaders in demographic growth, I’m now talking about the total fertility rate in the Central Federal District, these are Tula (plus 3%), Lipetsk (plus 2.5%), Kostroma (plus 1.9%),” she said.

Batalina noted that these are regions with different budgetary provisions, territories, and population structures. “This only says one thing: there is not a single subject today in which it would be impossible to find solutions to reverse this trend,” she emphasized.
