Moscow. 25th of April. INTERFAX – Russian cosmonauts Oleg Kononenko and Nikolai Chub went into outer space from the International Space Station (ISS) to install scientific equipment on the Poisk module, follows from the Roscosmos broadcast.

The cosmonauts opened the exit hatch of the Poisk module of the Russian segment of the ISS at 17:57 Moscow time. The estimated duration of the exit will be 6 hours 36 minutes.

During the exit, the cosmonauts will install equipment for scientific experiments “Kvarts-M” and “Perspective-KM” on the Poisk module, and will also try to deploy a small-sized radar on the Nauka module, which was not deployed during the previous spacewalk, it was reported in “Roscosmos”.

If there is time, the cosmonauts will dismantle the Biorisk-MSN scientific equipment container and deploy the pressure and sediment control unit on the Poisk module. Kononenko and Chub will also take swab samples from the surface of the Science module.

For Kononenko, this is the seventh exit in his space career, for Chub – the second.

The last spacewalk under the Russian program took place on October 25, 2023.

The crew of the 71st long-term expedition is working on the ISS – Roscosmos cosmonauts Oleg Kononenko, Nikolai Chub and Alexander Grebenkin, NASA astronauts Matthew Dominic, Michael Barratt, Jeanette Epps and Tracy Dyson.
