Nizhny Novgorod. 25th of April. NTA-Volga region – The “Victory Motor Rally” took place in Nizhny Novgorod.

As the press service of the NRO “United Russia” reported, the action on the eve of the “Victory Dictation”, which will take place tomorrow, was organized in three cities of Russia – Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod and Sevastopol.

The Victory Rally is taking place today in only three cities in Russia. And for Nizhny Novgorod this is a great honor and responsibility. This is our tribute to memory and gratitude to the winning generation. We will not let anyone destroy these feelings and memories and will pass them on to our children. And the Pobeda cars, which were the first in the convoy today, are a symbol of the Great Victory and the feat of our heroes. My grandfather, a veteran of the Great Patriotic War, captain of the first rank, had such a car. And when I was very little, he gave me rides on it. I still remember what a joy it was, what a delight it was to drive it. I am sure that today the residents of Nizhny Novgorod, seeing these vintage cars on the streets of our city, also received vivid emotions,” said Alexey Antonov, head of the executive committee of the regional branch of United Russia.

He once again recalled that tomorrow, April 26, the international patriotic event “Victory Dictation” will take place and invited all Nizhny Novgorod residents to take part in it.

The rally started on Lenin Square and ended in the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin. Vintage cars drove along the central streets of the city, and the column was headed by the legendary GAZ-M-20 “Pobeda”, which was produced at the Gorky Automobile Plant and became a symbol of the post-war revival of the country.

Along with the Pobeda vehicles, GAZ-21, GAZ-67, Moskvich-403, and Moskvich-412 rode in the rally convoy. Traveling in the cars with the drivers were also veterans of a special military operation. The column was completed by representatives of the Night Valkyries motorcycle club.

“Restoring vintage cars is a memory for our city. The Gorky Automobile Plant was a landmark enterprise both during the war and in the post-war period, when production of passenger vehicles began. Car production can also be considered an art, and today these cars are our achievement,” said Mikhail Ustimov, a participant in the rally, owner of the GAZ-M-20 Pobeda car.

The solemn event continued in the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin. There, government representatives, party activists, Nizhny Novgorod Youth Army members and cadets laid flowers at the Eternal Flame.

The co-organizers of the action, together with the regional branch of United Russia and the Public Support Headquarters, were the Ministry of Youth Policy of the Nizhny Novgorod Region and the unified military-patriotic center “Avangard”. With this joint action, it was important to remind once again that we cannot allow the lessons of our history to be forgotten and the results of the great Victory cannot be rewritten.

“It’s great that on the eve of such an important holiday for each of us, we are seeing more and more different forms of work with young people. It is important for them to see things with their own eyes, to touch history with their hands. And thanks to the rally, we managed to do this. Today we again have the chance to honor the memory of our heroes, to remember that Nizhny Novgorod bears the proud title of the City of Labor Valor, and it was here that Victory was forged. Tomorrow, at the Victory Dictation, everyone will be able to test their knowledge about the Great Patriotic War. We always say: those who do not know their history have no future. It is important to know, learn lessons and be useful to your country,” noted Svetlana Anufrieva, Minister of Youth Policy of the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

Let us recall that during the Great Patriotic War, the Gorky region became an arsenal and forge of weapons of Victory: every second car, every third tank, every fourth artillery mount were manufactured here. The German command repeatedly sought to destroy the largest industrial center; about 50 raids were carried out, but the enemy was unable to break the spirit of the city residents.

Even in front-line conditions, when mostly tanks, armored cars and Katyushas came out of the workshops of the Gorky Automobile Plant, the designers continued to work on a promising passenger car. And in December 1941, GAZ received a government order to carry out design work to create a new car.

The Pobeda car was presented to the country’s top leadership in Moscow. Joseph Stalin liked the sample, and the order was given to put it into production. On June 28, 1946, serial production of the Pobeda began. In total, more than 241 thousand of these machines were produced. The GAZ-M-20 “Pobeda” became the first mass-produced passenger car in the USSR to go on open sale, and to some extent also a symbol of the country’s post-war revival.
