Saratovets used the found card and became a suspect in a criminal case of theft | 25 April 2024, 12:11

A resident of the Zavodskoy district reported to the police that she had lost her bank card and, without having time to block it, received notifications that funds in the amount of 15,757 rubles had been debited from her account. According to the applicant, SMS messages about purchases in grocery stores and at a gas station came to her on the night of April 13-14. Based on this fact, a criminal case was initiated on the grounds of a crime provided for in paragraph 3 of Article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

Criminal investigation officers brought to the police an 18-year-old resident of Saratov, who had previously been convicted of committing property crimes. A preventive measure was chosen against the suspect in the form of a written undertaking not to leave the place and proper behavior.

Saratov police warn that in order to avoid criminal liability, it is not necessary to appropriate the find. The law requires that measures be taken to return the lost item to the owner; if this is not possible, the competent authorities should be informed about the find. Managing other people’s money is a criminal offense. There is also advice for bank card owners: if lost, you should immediately block it, which can be quickly done using a mobile application or by calling the bank.
