The Legislative Assembly presented candidates for the title “Honorary Citizen of St. Petersburg”

The Commission on Education, Culture and Science of the Legislative Assembly approved the list of candidates for the title “Honorary Citizen of St. Petersburg,” the press service of the city parliament reported.

The applicants for the award included public figure Anatoly Gerasimov, People’s Artist of the Russian Federation, head of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic of Jazz Music David Goloshchekin, state, political, social and sports figure Vasily Shestakov, three-time Olympic champion in athletics Tatyana Kazankina, Honored Engineer of Russia Yuri Kormilitsin, Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation Dmitry Granov, Soviet and Russian medical scientist Eduard Ailamazyan. Kommersant reports this.

Previously, parliament decided to consider the issue of conferring this title. In 2024, deputies will be able to award the badge to no more than three people.

Last year, parliamentarians awarded the title to People’s Artist of the USSR Edita Piekha and resident of besieged Leningrad Nadezhda Strogonova, who worked as a teacher during difficult times.
