In St. Petersburg, the project layout (PPT) of the tunnel complex – Poklonnogorsk interchange, which will be built in the Vyborg region, is approved. The draft document was published on the Smolny website on April 25.
The underground interchange will connect five highways at once: Poklonnogorskaya Street and Northern Avenue (750 m), Engels Avenue (1120 m), Vyborg Highway (450 m) and Thorez Avenue (470 m).
The tunnels, which will be built adjacent to buildings 2 and 3 of building No. 95 on Thorez Avenue, will be reinforced with sheet piling protection, and the foundations will also be strengthened.
In order to protect the interchange from possible man-made and natural emergencies, at the design stage it is planned to provide for the replacement of weakened soils with soils with a higher bearing capacity.
After the interchange is ready, the area will be landscaped: the destroyed soil cover will be restored, grass will be sown and trees will be planted.
Public discussions of the PPT took place in the fall of 2023. Fontanka talked in detail about the future underground transport hub. As part of the first stage, it is planned to build a four-lane tunnel crossing between Poklonnogorskaya Street and Northern Avenue. At the second stage, build an interchange at the intersection of Engels Avenue and Vyborg Highway and tunnel crossings at the Engels – Northern Avenue and Engels – Thorez Avenue sections. The tram tracks running along Engelsa will be removed underground.
The approximate cost, 24 billion rubles, was announced in currently outdated prices – back in early 2022. Construction dates are still unknown. The tunnel complex is the second stage of the interchange. The first, the Poklonnogorsk overpass, was put into operation in 2017.
The design project for the second stage of the interchange must be approved after passing an anti-corruption examination.
