Loyalty to a hobby that is rare these days caused an 87-year-old St. Petersburg pensioner to be hospitalized. According to Fontanka, on April 25, a man received serious and numerous injuries when falling from a dovecote.
Previously, everything happened near house 35 on Ordzhonikidze Street. Doctors diagnosed a head injury, rupture of organs, fractures of two ribs, a fracture of the spine – and this is not a complete list of injuries.
Doctors determined the patient’s condition as extremely serious and placed him in shock intensive care.
Let us remember that there have been dovecotes (pigeon stations) in St. Petersburg since the end of the 19th century – then pigeon mail was considered quite a means of communication along with the telegraph, pigeons were under the supervision of the General Staff. During Soviet times, pigeon farming was also encouraged as a potential military project. By the end of the 20th century, the popularity of the hobby declined, and in recent years, according to enthusiasts, the number of dovecotes did not exceed three dozen.
