Information about the abnormal load on the power grid served as a reason to check the police officers. During the raids, they discovered several mining farms that operated by stealing electricity.

It turned out that several mining complexes were owned by a 35-year-old resident of Novosibirsk. In order not to pay for electricity, he turned for help to a 39-year-old resident of the region who worked in one of the specialized institutions.

For a bribe, the energy engineer agreed to organize the connection of the farmer-miner’s equipment to high-voltage power lines.

About 5 thousand pieces of various equipment intended for obtaining cryptocurrency were seized from mining farms. Criminal cases have been initiated based on crimes provided for in Articles 165, 290 and 291 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

“According to preliminary estimates, the damage caused by illegal activities amounted to more than 190 million rubles,” said Irina Volk, official representative of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

A preventive measure in the form of detention was chosen for one of the defendants. The second one is still under recognizance not to leave the place. There may be other people involved in this story. Efforts to establish them are ongoing.

We previously reported that a miner from Novosibirsk paid power engineers 6 million rubles. By resolution of the Leninsky District, the criminal case against Ivan Likholat was terminated.
