This year, during the presidential elections, a three-day voting period was organized. Chairman of the St. Petersburg Election Commission (SPbIK) Maxim Meiksin told Vecherka about its features.

“Three-day voting was introduced by the Russian Central Election Commission during the pandemic. First of all, to ensure maximum protection of the health of Russian citizens. At the same time, sociological surveys demonstrate that voters supported the innovation, as it provides additional opportunities for the exercise of voting rights and ease of expression of will. Multi-day voting in St. Petersburg is taking place for the third time. It was first used at the All-Russian vote on amendments to the constitution in 2020, and then at the elections of deputies to the Legislative Assembly and the State Duma. However, it is worth noting that as part of the 2024 Russian presidential elections, the three-day voting format was used for the first time. Another unique feature of this year’s presidential elections was the historically record turnout of 74.38%. More than 2.8 million St. Petersburg residents took part in the elections. For the first time, such large-scale consolidation in society occurred when people went to vote with entire families, generations for their national leader, realizing that their future and the future of our entire country depended on this choice. In addition, as part of the election campaign for the presidential election of the Russian Federation in St. Petersburg, for the first time, a large-scale federal project for targeted information to citizens, InformUIK, was implemented. More than 8,000 members of election commissions were involved in it. During the implementation of the project, crawlers visited about 1.857 million households,” Meiskin shared.

Earlier, the St. Petersburg Diary wrote about how Putin was presented with a certificate of the President of the Russian Federation for a new term of office.
