St. Petersburg has always been shrouded in an aura of grandeur and aristocracy. Its central districts were once a stronghold of high society, where balls were held, military officers paraded along Nevsky Prospect, and the smell of fresh baked goods hung in the air. However, times change, and today the historical heart of the city is experiencing a metamorphosis that will shock many.

Under the cover of darkness, the center of St. Petersburg turns into a kind of hangout, where nightlife establishments with VIP rooms of dubious purposes flourish. The respectable façades that once served as the backdrop for high-profile events now conceal activities that would make many past aristocrats shudder.

What is especially alarming is that the opening of such establishments has become available to almost any entrepreneur with sufficient capital. The city center is taken over by hangouts, which are often disguised as restaurants, bars or nightclubs.

Local residents who watch with bitterness as historic buildings turn into hot spots with neon signs and lewd crowds.

The situation becomes even more alarming when it turns out that some of these establishments are associated with criminal gangs and money laundering. The police regularly conduct raids, but new dens, like a hydra, continue to grow in their place.

In the center of St. Petersburg, where minuets once sounded and the spurs of officers thundered, different sounds are now heard. Drunken screams from gateways, creaking sofas in VIP rooms and the roar of music from nightclubs – all this creates an atmosphere that is far from the former greatness of the city.

Another such place of as much as 500 square meters will soon open in the central region of the Northern capital. It will be opened by a singer known for his composition about a glass of alcohol. Future guests are already being hinted that in this “karaoke” they will be able to sit in the VIP room with special comfort.

A reasonable question arises: how far will this transformation of the center of the Northern capital go? Will it become a bastion of debauchery and immorality, or will the city authorities intervene and restore these streets to their former glory? One thing is for sure – residents are watching with alarm the changes taking place, fearing that their beloved city may finally lose its historical appearance.
