Today (April 25), the mayor of Smolensk Alexander Novikov took part in the solemn ceremony of signing a cooperation agreement between the Smolensk diocese and municipalities, including Smolensk.
The event is truly historical. For the first time, the agreement was signed not only at the level of regional authorities and the diocesan bishop, but also between the heads of municipalities and the heads of dioceses of the Smolensk Metropolis.
This document is significant; it accompanies existing full-fledged relations while strengthening and developing them.
“Even closer cooperation between the Smolensk diocese and Smolensk will undoubtedly become a serious factor in further solving problems in the field of preventing extremism, preserving cultural heritage sites, healthcare, education, instilling tolerance and patriotism among young people, and promoting a healthy lifestyle,” said Alexander Novikov.
Also present at the ceremony were: Vasily Anokhin, Director of the Department for Interaction with Public Associations Petr Borisovich Lipatov, heads and deputies of municipalities.
“I am grateful to Metropolitan Isidor of Smolensk and Dorogobuzh, the clergy of the diocese for their active participation in the life of the city and region, maximum involvement and desire to expand cooperation at the level of each municipality,” said the head of Smolensk.
