Modern technologies have already become a part of our lives in the 21st century, and this area is especially of interest to children and youth. In the Volgograd region, the program “Development of literacy in the field of UAV management” was launched at the initiative of Governor Andrei Bocharov. Learning to control unmanned aerial vehicles is becoming increasingly in demand, including among schoolchildren. One of these sites opened in the city youth center “Udarnik” in the Traktorozavodsky district.

In “Udarnik” 2 groups have been formed – more than 30 children are studying. The UAV management literacy course will be held three times a week. Teenagers will learn how to assemble and configure drones, work on simulators and learn how to control them on a multimedia screen, before becoming familiar with safety precautions.

– Then I show how the joysticks work, what the left and right hands are responsible for, how the drones move, and then we move to the cube, where we have safe conditions, the drone flies separately in the cube, the children download the mobile application and try to control it directly from the phone in practice to control the drone, – said additional education teacher Dmitry Zhuravlev.

Children aged 11 to 17 years old will be taught how to fly aircraft by teachers who have completed an advanced training program at the Volgograd Technical College on the basis of the Regional Training and Production Technopark. Daria Uvarova, an 11th grade student, an activist of the youth movement, came with her friends to get to know the unfamiliar technology better.

– Of course, it’s interesting, it’s a first for me, I’ve never encountered this before, I’ve only heard and that’s all. “I want to try to develop in many ways, and drones are something I have never tried, and this is interesting,” she shared Daria Uvarova.

The areas of application of drones are varied: agriculture, construction, geodesy and others. The task of creating UAV literacy centers in all municipalities was set by Governor Andrei Bocharov at a meeting of the Council of Municipal Entities of the Volgograd Region. At the expense of the regional budget, additional education centers are being created in the region; there will be 45 of them in total. Schoolchildren will learn how to both control drones and assemble them.

“We have prepared everything necessary, for this we equipped our classrooms with the necessary equipment, trained our additional education teachers, who have undergone special training in this area, received certificates that allow them to conduct educational activities,” she noted. Deputy Head of Volgograd Anna Kuvychko.

The new program “Development of literacy in the field of UAV management” started in the region at the beginning of 2024. Specialized educational platforms have been created on the basis of municipal youth centers in each district of Volgograd. Classes are held free of charge.

– Young people love what is modern, new, and this allows us to be relevant today, to be a youth center, truly youth, without something old and uninteresting. This allows us to keep our target audience engaged here and with interest,” Director city youth center “Udarnik” Anton Ivanov.

The results of the children’s practical training will be summed up at the 1st championship in UAV control, which will be held in September 2024 at the Orlyonok children’s health camp. A special course for passing obstacles and 10 platforms will be organized for the children, where both beginners and more experienced participants will demonstrate their skills. It is planned that more than 200 schoolchildren in 45 teams from all over the Volgograd region will take part in the championship.
