Residents of Novosibirsk do not give up reading, although they prefer audio editions to paper books.

The book market is beginning to recover after a serious crisis. The demand for paper and electronic publications is growing in the country. Interest in reading is fueled by film adaptations of novels and the fashion for intellectual relaxation.

According to RG.ru, the book market began to gain momentum in 2023. This primarily applies to e-books. According to April data, e-book sales have tripled year over year. Most often, books are sold on marketplaces. The number of bookstores is gradually decreasing, now there are about 2.5 thousand in the country. The leader in the number of bookstores is Moscow. The largest number of publishing houses are located here. The list of book centers also includes Novosibirsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Makhachkala, Kazan, Yekaterinburg, Vladivostok – publishing houses also operate in these cities. Paper editions are sold less frequently; audiobooks are gaining popularity. Every fifth book subscription user today chooses this format. However, there are also those who use a multi-format model, that is, they switch from habitual reading to listening. The portrait of the average e-book reader looks like this: from 26 to 45 years old, higher education, proactive life position, request for cultural content and quality leisure. There are equal numbers of women and men among book readers. In other age categories there are more readers of paper books.
