In Buryatia, a telecom operator was again fined for fraudulent calls.

According to the republican prosecutor’s office, in April 2023, a resident of Gusinoozersk received two phone calls. The callers introduced themselves as employees of law enforcement agencies of the republic and the Central Bank of Russia. They reported that they were trying to get a loan for a man in Omsk, and to prevent this, they needed to transfer 120 thousand to a “safe” account. The man believed the scammers and transferred the money.

It turned out that a resident of Buryatia received calls using spoofed numbers from foreign mobile operators, but in violation of the law, the calls were not blocked.

In this regard, the telecom operator was brought to administrative liability under Part 2 of Art. 13.2.1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation (failure of the telecom operator to fulfill the obligation to terminate the provision of communication services in cases provided for by the legislation of the Russian Federation in the field of communications) and imposed a fine of 600 thousand rubles.

The court’s decision did not enter into legal force.
