Irkutsk, NIA-Baikal – More than 300 tons of humanitarian cargo and 44 vehicles were sent from Irkutsk to the zone of a special military operation.

Mayor Ruslan Bolotov announced this during a report on the activities of the city administration in 2023.

“Together we are doing a lot to bring the common Victory closer. From the first days of the Northern Military District, Irkutsk residents began to help our fellow countrymen. Volunteers, social activists, local community groups, veterans’ councils, labor collectives and commercial organizations, caring citizens – no one was left out. They sew clothes and stretchers, weave camouflage nets, knit warm clothes with their own hands, and bring things to be sent to the front line. Employees of the Irkutsk administration alone transferred 27 units of equipment to the locations of military units on the territory of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics,” noted Mayor Ruslan Bolotov.

Over the past year, dozens of pieces of equipment were delivered to the front line: cars, minibuses, UAZ, GAZ, KAMAZ. Cars are fully serviced. Specialists check the serviceability of vehicles.

To ensure the targeting and quality of cargo delivery, it was decided to establish the “Favorite City” fund, which raises funds for the needs of the Northern Military District. The initiative was taken by members of the Public Chamber of Irkutsk and the regional branch of the Russian Military Historical Society. During the organization’s work, Irkutsk residents donated more than 9 million rubles. The money is allocated strictly according to the needs of military personnel, the press service of the city administration reports.

“We pay great attention to supplying the frontline military personnel with special equipment and household items, and help the soldiers’ loved ones. It is important for our children that their families are warm and cared for and know that they are not abandoned. This is exactly the work we are doing together with the administration of Irkutsk,” said Mikhail Lunev, director of the “Beloved City” charity foundation.

Also in Irkutsk, work has been organized with the families of fighters: they are provided with medical, psychological, social, legal, and domestic support. Last year, together with the regional government and the City Duma, more than 30 measures were implemented. For example, children of military personnel receive hot meals in schools, go to preschool and use public transport for free, and attend creative and sports clubs. Medical organizations in the city conduct free examinations free of charge. Those living in the private sector are provided with firewood.

In addition, in 2023, at the last meeting of the Duma, together with deputies, they decided: the families of participants in the special military operation will be compensated for the cost of tickets on municipal transport.

“Our fighters and we – their loved ones – feel supported. Any questions are resolved immediately by contacting the city administration. All these processes have already been perfected. We don’t have to face problems,” commented the head of the branch of the State Fund for Supporting Participants of the Northern Military District “Defenders of the Fatherland” in the Irkutsk region, Yulia Domashevskaya.

“For us, wives and mothers, it is valuable that there is always a human response from the city and personally from Mayor Ruslan Nikolaevich Bolotov. We are grateful that we are heard, that our sons and husbands are not forgotten. In preserving their memory, we draw strength to live on,” said the mother of the deceased member of the Northern Military District, holder of the Order of Courage Nikolai Kozhokar Natalia Kozhokar.
