City residents complained about the silkworm invasion in the 300th anniversary of Omsk park last year. The caterpillars attacked the birches and, according to local residents, only one name remained from the park. Omsk residents, concerned that the situation could repeat itself this year, turned to the city administration with a question.

“Last year, the Omsk 300th Anniversary Park and other parks were attacked by silkworms. Some of the trees died. What measures are planned for 2024 to preserve Omsk parks infested with silkworms?”, the Omsk resident asked in the telegram channel “Fadina is communicating. 2.0.”

The mayor’s office responded to the appeal by answering that they would not fight silkworms in the park. This year, only acaricidal and deratization treatments of the territory are planned there.

“With the ground method of treating gypsy moths with pesticides and agrochemicals, the distance from populated areas, sources of drinking and cultural water use, places of recreation for the population and places where manual work is carried out to care for agricultural crops should be at least 300 meters, taking into account the wind rose. Considering this, it is not possible to carry out these activities,” – added the city administration.
