The Left Bank District Court sentenced a major and two senior police lieutenants who were accused of fraud of 500 thousand rubles. This was reported by the press service of the district court.

Investigators found that the police promised the Voronezh man, who was accused of drug possession (Article 228 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), that they would be able to resolve the issue without bringing him to criminal responsibility. For this they demanded a reward of half a million rubles. They divided the funds received and disposed of them at their own discretion.

A criminal case was opened against the former police officers under Part 3 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Fraud on a large scale using an official position”). The maximum penalty is up to six years in prison.

The Left Bank District Court found the major and one of the senior lieutenants guilty and sentenced them to two years in prison in a general regime colony. Another senior lieutenant was sentenced to two years and three months. In addition, all convicts lost their titles and the opportunity to work in law enforcement agencies for two years.

The verdict has not yet entered into legal force. Until this moment, the defendants will remain in custody.
