Three candidates are participating in the competition

Tests of the professional skills competition “Best Librarian of the City – 2024” have begun in Kurgan.

This year, three Kurgan librarians are vying for the title of best. These are the head of the Central Children’s Library named after N. Ostrovsky Natalya Ess, employee of the Shukshin Library Vera Leonova and chief librarian of the Chekhov Library Anastasia Leonova. They made it to the finals based on the results of the selection of competitive documents at the first stage.

On the first day of the face-to-face competition, the participants presented their presentation cards. Natalya Ess is the most experienced participant, her work experience in the Kurgan library system is 29 years. She first came to work at the Karamzin Library in 1995, and six years later she headed it. As she herself admitted, no matter which library she came to, renovations began in each one. She had to renovate the Chukovsky library and then move it to a separate building. When it moved to the N. Ostrovsky Central Children’s Library in 2017, renovations were already underway, which were finally completed in 2022. Natalya Ess is also a representative of a dynasty of librarians: her mother Tamara Gavrilova is also a representative of this profession.

The second participant, Vera Leonova, has been working in the library system for 11 years, the last six of which have been at the Shukshin Library. She has the important responsibility of instilling in future young readers a love of books. She considers this quality to be the most important in her work and calls for leaving behind the stereotype that the librarian’s profession is simple and boring.

The third participant, Anastasia Ponomareva, presented herself in the business card through seven family values. Anastasia has been in the library system for 18 years, the last ten of which have been in the Chekhov Library. She also comes from a dynasty of librarians, and her mother Alevtina Petrovna came to cheer for her daughter at the competition. Together with their mother, they developed an interactive format for the “Museum on a Table” event, which was shown to the jury. These are educational lectures for children on various topics – from the history of bells, pencils and pens to the holiday of the wooden spoon – with a demonstration of interesting exhibits. The idea of the “Museum on the Table” was born from Anastasia Ponomareva’s passion for collecting.

After the self-presentation, the participants faced the stage of a recommendation conversation: they had to convincingly recommend a good book and try to infect everyone around them with love for it.

On April 29, participants will face the final stage – holding an open event. After this, the jury will count the points, and on May 17 the name of the best librarian of Kurgan in 2024 will be known.
