Elista airport will open for civil flights from May 3, Rosaviation announced. The airport will receive and depart flights daily from 09:00 to 19:00.

“The possibility of safe flights to the capital of Kalmykia has been confirmed by specialists from the Ministry of Defense, the Federal Air Transport Agency and the State Air Traffic Control Corporation,” said the press service of the aviation regulator, adding that the entire infrastructure of Elista airport is in working order.

Elista airport will be the first that was closed after the start of the full-scale invasion of Russian troops in Ukraine to resume operations.

In mid-December, the “test flight” was accepted by Krasnodar airport, which had also been closed since the beginning of the war. It was then reported that they planned to open the Krasnodar airport soon after the “test flight”, and it would become the first of their closed ones to resume operations, but this did not happen.

After the start of the full-scale invasion of Russian troops into Ukraine, 11 airports in southern Russia were closed.

Russian authorities regularly report attacks by Ukrainian drones in different regions, both bordering Ukraine and those located far from the border. The drones, in particular, flew to the center of Moscow, attacked the port of Ust-Luga in the Leningrad region and the territory of the Alabuga special economic zone in Tatarstan.
