Family support has been and will always be a priority of Russian politics, said Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko, speaking at the Council of Legislators.
According to her, Russia has built a systematic measure to support families, however, for a number of reasons, positive demographic trends are recorded only in some regions.
For Russia, the issue of increasing the birth rate is a strategic priority and a condition for preserving us as a strong, independent power, the speaker noted.
“Russia should be a country with a large population and set the right trends so that it is fashionable and honorable to have a large, strong family,” Matvienko said.
She expressed confidence that in matters of fertility we are able to turn the tide and do everything so that we begin a “demographic spring.”
