An art gallery opened in the First Sanatorium Children’s Home in Nizhny Novgorod

--

The art gallery “In the Language of Art” opened in the first sanatorium orphanage in Nizhny Novgorod. According to the regional Ministry of Culture, all the work was carried out by students of the institution under the guidance of specialists from the Nizhny Novgorod Art Museum.

Throughout the year, students took part in the museum project “In the Language of Art.” During the classes, children mastered the skills of perceiving the shape, size, color of objects, their position in space, and also worked on improving hand-eye coordination.

Last December, the 20th Century Art Museum opened a reporting exhibition of works by children participating in the project, at which 60 of the best works were presented. These are preparatory plein air sketches and drawings based on paintings from the collection of the Nizhny Novgorod State Art Museum.

Now these works, which were created as part of the project by children with disabilities, will decorate the walls of the orphanage – in total there are more than 40 works made in different techniques. These are still lifes of geometric figures, portraits, landscapes, multi-figure compositions, as well as mosaic panels, painted and typed under the supervision of professional artists.

All work was carried out by students aged 4 to 18 under the guidance of artists and museum teachers. The new exhibition displays the creative potential of children and shows how children with disabilities perceive the world holistically.

According to the curator of the project, head of the department of museum programs at the Nizhny Novgorod State Art Museum, Elizaveta Surganova, the creation of their own children’s art gallery in the orphanage became possible thanks to the projects of the Nizhny Novgorod State Art Museum.

It is noted that the pupils of the First Sanatorium Orphanage have been participants in social cultural and educational projects of the Nizhny Novgorod State Art Museum since 2018. Many children grew up in front of the museum staff, and one of them chose the profession of designer and is a student at the budget department of Minin University.

Earlier it was reported that the Gorodets orphanage celebrated its 100th anniversary.
