On April 25, 2024, the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod Region considered a bill to extend the validity of the rule on classifying the black-headed gull as a hunting resource.
The initiator was the deputy, head of the Grand-NN group agricultural enterprise complex Igor Gordeev (United Russia).
Let us recall that in June 2023, after an outbreak of bird flu in the black-headed gull population, deputies amended the law “On hunting and the conservation of hunting resources in the Nizhny Novgorod region” and classified these birds as hunting resources. The expiration date of the law was set at June 8, 2024.
Gordeev notes that the past year has proven the effectiveness of the law. At the same time, the extremely tense epizootic situation regarding avian influenza remains. Therefore, he proposed extending the law for five years – until June 8, 2029.
He also added that the norm does not mean that birds must be shot. “Our goal is, first of all, to scare away seagulls from poultry farms, to create a kind of “safe zone,” emphasized Igor Gordeev.
Deputies supported the bill.
