In the Ivanovo region they honored the memory of those killed at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant
On April 26, 1986, one of the largest man-made disasters in history occurred: the explosion at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. 140 thousand square kilometers were contaminated with radiation. About 7 million people were affected by the infection. More than 500 thousand people took part in eliminating the consequences of the accident.
Today, events dedicated to the victims and liquidators of the accident are being held in the Ivanovo region. In Ivanovo, employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations gathered at the Memorial to participants in the liquidation of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
“The feat of the Chernobyl firefighters evoked feelings of deep admiration and gratitude not only among the citizens of the Soviet Union, but also among the inhabitants of the entire planet,” – noted in the regional branch of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
A memorial event was also held in the village of Novo-Talitsy on the square named after K.I. Rupasova. Its participants included accident liquidators, schoolchildren and local residents. A minute of silence was observed in memory of the victims. Flowers were laid at the memorials.
