A Samara schoolboy became the silver medalist of the 58th International

Mendeleev Olympiad in Chemistry

From April 22 to April 26, 2024, the 58th International Mendeleev Olympiad was held in Shenzhen (China).

The International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad (IMChO) has been held since 1992 and is the successor to the All-Union Chemistry Olympiad for schoolchildren. In terms of content, IMChO is considered the most difficult and one of the most interesting Olympiads in the world.

This year, the International Mendeleev Olympiad gathered a record number of participants – about 300 schoolchildren and mentors (including observers) from 29 countries.

Among them are Austria, Armenia, Belarus, Brazil, Bulgaria, Hungary, Kazakhstan, China, North Macedonia, Serbia, India, Syria and others. Representatives of Great Britain, the United Arab Emirates and Japan participated in the Olympiad as observers.

The Russian team included 10 people from 7 regions of the country, including Lev Avvakumov (Samara Regional Center for Gifted Children, 11th grade).

The Russian team of young chemists once again confirmed the right to be considered the best in the world, having won ten medals in a fierce competition.

Avvakumov Lev added a silver medal to the collection of achievements of the national team.

This victory would not have been possible without the contribution of teachers and mentors of the Samara Regional Center for Gifted Children:

Yashkin Sergey Nikolaevich,

Yashkina Ekaterina Alexandrovna,

Shcherbatykh Natalya Viktorovna,

Svetlov Dmitry Alekseevich!

Thanks to the teachers!

Congratulations, we are proud and wish you new victories!
