On April 25, a regional dealer conference “Higher Gear” from Avito Auto was held in Nizhny Novgorod. At the event, platform experts and representatives of the auto business discussed key changes in the market, directions of its development and the main drivers of consumer behavior.

Current car market data in the region were announced:

New car market trends in the region.

  • The average cost of a car has remained virtually unchanged over the year. In March 2024, it amounted to 3.7 million rubles.

  • From March 2023 to March 2024, the number of advertisements increased by 78%. Experts attribute this to the growing demand for new Chinese cars.

  • Chinese brands remain the leader in the new car category. Their share continues to grow year on year and amounts to 71%.

  • The main competitors of new Chinese brands in the Nizhny Novgorod region remain European and Japanese used cars. Thus, experts have identified models that buyers are considering on the platform along with popular Chinese models – OMODA C5, JAECOO J7 and Chery Tigo 7 Pro Max. Users see Hyundai Solaris, Volkswagen Polo and Kia Rio as their main alternative. At the same time, when considering EXEED LX for purchase, its main competitors remain other Chinese cars – Jetour Dashing, OMODA C5 and JAECOO J7.

Used car market trends in the region:

  • The average cost of a used car for the year in March 2024 was 1.3 million rubles, which is lower than the all-Russian figure – 1.7 million rubles.

  • The number of used cars in the region increased by 8%

  • In the used car segment, users continue to give preference to cars from European, Korean, Japanese and other brands. Their share is 70%, another 25% comes from the Russian automobile industry. The share of Chinese brands in the used car segment is still insignificant: in the Nizhny Novgorod region it is 5%

  • The share of dealers in March 2024 accounts for 27% of supply. There is an increase in the share of private sellers – 47%, another 25% are occupied by professional sellers

Chats have overtaken calls in popularity among platform users when communicating with sellers.

Over the past year, calls have lost their leading position as a tool for communicating with buyers regarding car transactions on the platform. Platform users prefer to chat rather than call: their share in March 2024 reached 64% of all primary contacts on the platform.

Safety remains one of the key drivers for car transactions. At the same time, customer requests and market trends indicate the growing importance of online sales. Therefore, the platform is developing solutions that will help make more transparent transactions.

The conference also discussed:

– platform innovation: “Fixed Price” badge, thanks to which buyers of used cars will see which cars they can purchase without taking into account additional promotions and services.

– using AI to audit calls, which will help dealers increase the conversion of calls to appointments, automate processes and get a seamless and understandable assessment process.

– Avito Auction: in the Nizhny Novgorod region, the share of unique traffic in the Auction is 82%, and in the first day the cars were not placed on other classifications.

“Buyers are increasingly choosing to use online platforms to buy and sell cars. Such conferences allow the professional community to discuss issues and market demands and share experiences to scale their business. And we, as partners, always listen to feedback and change, following the needs of the industry,” – commented Vladislav Ivanov, head of the key account team at Avito Auto.
