Rosvodresursy adjusted the operation of hydroelectric power plants involved in watering the Volga-Akhtuba floodplain. According to V102.RU, the department’s new instructions will be in effect from April 26 to May 15.

Earlier, we would like to remind you that it was reported that the Volzhskaya HPP will operate in the maximum established water discharge mode – 26,000±500 m3/s until April 27 inclusive.

Further, according to the new recommendations of Rosvodresurs, from April 28, they will decrease daily by 2000 ± 500 cubic meters per second and by May 2 they will reach 16,000 ± 500 cubic meters per second. In this mode, which is established for fish reproduction, the Volzhskaya HPP will operate until May 15 inclusive with a permissible increase in the water level in the upper pool at the hydroelectric dam up to 15.2 m BS without taking into account wind surges.

Currently, as noted at a meeting in Rosvodresursy, at 70% of water posts and gauging stations of the Volga-Kama cascade the water level is below the floodplain and only in 5% of cases the level of the adverse event is exceeded.

Meteorologists’ forecast for the total inflow in the second quarter remained unchanged: it is expected that the Volga and Kama reservoirs will replenish 154-184 km3 of water. The norm for the quarter is 159 km3.

The duration of operation of the Lower Volga reservoirs with maximum flow rates for the period and the timing of reaching optimal discharges for fish reproduction were established taking into account the opinion of the scientific community. As noted, flow distribution scenarios were calculated under the expertise of the Institute of Water Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The Zhigulevsky and Volgograd hydroelectric complexes now provide water supply to the Volga-Akhtuba floodplain. The water enters a complex hydrographic network of many eriks, channels and lakes. The next task is to create the necessary conditions for the needs of fisheries in the lower reaches of the Volga. The reservoirs will reach the appropriate regimes in early May.,” commented Vadim Nikanorov, deputy head of Rosvodresursy.
