In 2024, Nizhny Novgorod bears the title of “Cultural Capital of Russia”. Therefore, there will be many events. A rich program of concerts, exhibitions and festivals was prepared for citizens and tourists. Deputy Governor Oleg Berkovich spoke about it in more detail at a press conference on April 26. Hot on the heels, the editors of the news agency “In the City of N” collected everything in one material.
This year’s public events open with the large-scale media exhibition Intervals. The start of the multimedia festival is scheduled for April 27. Only the opening concert will take place on this day, while installations and educational lectures are planned for April 28 – May 1. The festival will feature 17 venues.

Exhibitions and art
WITH May 17 to 19 A graphics fair will be held in the underground parking lot of the Sheraton Hotel on Bolshaya Pokrovskaya “Contour” (16+). It will feature 40 participants from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod and other Russian cities.
Paintings from the collections of 20 leading Russian museums will be shown at the exhibition “Russian fair. From museum and private collections in Russia” (12+). It will open in the exhibition Pakgazuya on Strelka May 18 and will last until 25-th of August.
On September 13 – November 3 All-Russian Biennale of private collections is planned “The Art of Choice” (16+). As Berkovich noted, this event will become one of the most important cultural events in the city, which has never happened before. Over the course of two months, works from private collections will be exhibited at 15 different exhibition venues.
Concerts and festivals
VI International Arts Festival “Arrow” (12+) will open May 31 and will last until June 16. Spectators will be able to hear both classic opera works and rarely performed masterpieces of classical music.
One of the massive and popular multi-genre festivals is “Sunset Capital” (16+) will delight city residents all summer. He will pass from the beginning of June to the end of August, concerts will be organized every weekend. Pop performers will traditionally perform at the Rakushka in the Alexander Garden. We talked about the headliners here. In addition, in June and July, symphony concerts will be held on Sundays at the same location.
On the Fedorovsky and Nizhne-Volzhskaya embankments, on Strelka and in the Kremlin there will be sounds “Solo at Sunset” (0+). “Gastronomic Christmas” (18+) is also in the program. Here’s another culinary event “Yes, boss!” (16+) is still in question.
In the park named after Svredlov on Bolshaya Pokrovskaya every summer weekend there will be organized “Spark” (6+). There will be lectures, master classes, and pop-up markets.
Let us remind you that this year Russia celebrates the 225th anniversary of the birth of the poet Alexander Pushkin. In honor of this holiday, the Great International Arts Festival will be held in Bolshoy Boldin “Pushkin without borders” (12+) (from 6 to 9 June). And starting from June 15 to September 22, thematic festival weekends will be organized at the museum-reserve.
Another summer international piano festival Pianissimo (12+) will take place from July 8 to August 16. All artist performances are organized in the concert hall in Warehouses on Strelka in Nizhny Novgorod.
“Vyksa Festival” (18+), which grew out of the “Art Ravine”, will combine street art, concerts, performances and theatrical performances from 12 to 14 July.
One of the largest Russian festivals of new Russian cinema “Gorky fest” (16+) will be held at more than 40 venues in Nizhny Novgorod from 12 to 18 July.
In Vorsma on Lake Tuscany there will be “Russian Tuscany” (6+) – parade of stylized boats. It can be visited from July 26 to 28.
July 27 12 groups will perform on Minin and Pozharsky Square in Nizhny Novgorod as part of a music and environmental festival “Pure Rock” (12+).
Two more bright light shows are also expected: “Arzamas domes” (6+) in Arzamas and “Great Rus'” (6+) in Nizhny Novgorod. The first one will pass 10th of Augustand second – 12-th of September.
Day of the city in Nizhny Novgorod this year they will celebrate August 17. However, there is no detailed program of events yet. But it is already known that on this day there will be a parade of “Brass Bands” (0+), “Volga Regatta” (0+), as well as “Volga Fiesta” (0+).
In addition, a big concert dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the group is expected on August 24 Uma2rman (12+). The Nizhny Novgorod stadium was chosen as the venue.
Traditionally, you can enjoy jazz at the Autumn in Switzerland festival.
Theater performances
June 7-9 The premiere of the ballet will take place at the Nizhny Novgorod Opera and Ballet Theater named after A. S. Pushkin “Queen of Spades” (16+). From August 23 to September 1 Festival will take place “Modern music: Shostakovich, Meyerhold, Schnittke” (12+) in the concern Warehouse. As the organizers note, this will be a revival of the legendary Contemporary Music festival, which took place in the city of Gorky from 1962 to 1989.
In August (there are no exact dates yet), Nizhny Novgorod residents can expect costumed processions and performances as part of the street theater festival in Switzerland Park.
From 20 to 25 September the drama theater will show performances as part of the show of Russian foreign theaters “Theatrical Autumn” (16+).
Sports weekend
May 19 The annual sports race will take place on the streets of the city “Run, Hero!” (12+). A June 16 there will be a cultural trail RUTS (12+). 26-27 An international mass swim across the Volga will take place in July X-Waters Volga (16+). The largest series of triathlon starts in Russia will be launched on the embankment of the Grebnoy Canal Ironstar (16+) from 2 to 4 August.
