Governor Stanislav Voskresensky presented the Ivanovo region on Friday, April 26, at the Russian Embassy in the People’s Republic of China with the participation of Chinese business circles, the regional government reports.

The participants were greeted by the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the People’s Republic of China Igor Morgulov and the Deputy Director of the Department of Europe and Central Asia of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China Ms. Xie Manqing. A special guest is a graduate of the Ivanovo Interhome named after Stasova, Mr. Anatoly Li.

The head of the region emphasized the special relationship connecting the Ivanovo region with China. In 1933, the Interdom opened in Ivanovo, which has already graduated 5,000 students from 86 countries. “The development of revolutionary events in China in the 30s brought 115 Chinese students to the Interhome, calling themselves “Ivanovo Chinese”. The Interhome became a second home for them, and today the connection between the students and it is not interrupted,” the press service quotes Stanislav Voskresensky.

In 1937, the children of the founder of the People’s Republic of China, Mao Zedong, Mao Anying and Mao Anqing, began studying at the school.

In his speech, the head of the region noted the competitive advantages of the Ivanovo region and outlined promising areas of joint work. According to him, the distinctive feature of the region is its geographical location, developed transport infrastructure and, as a result, the growth of passenger traffic in rail and air travel. “The entire region is a single agglomeration where our people can move comfortably and, for example, live in one city, work in another, spend leisure time in a third,” noted Stanislav Voskresensky.

The governor spoke about the economic potential of the Ivanovo region, outlined the main areas of the economy and the specifics of the largest companies operating in the region. Stanislav Voskresensky noted that the Ivanovo region is the third region after Moscow and St. Petersburg in the country’s online economy.

The Ivanovo region is the center of the Russian textile industry; 96% of Russian medical gauze, more than 80% of bed linen, 77% of cotton and knitted fabrics are produced here; the production volume of innovative fabrics has increased almost 15 times in six years.

The second most important industry is mechanical engineering. “Today, the main specialization of the industry is the production of special and construction equipment, as well as equipment and accessories for the construction industry,” said Stanislav Voskresensky. The Professional company is one of the top 5 global manufacturers of quarry buckets and is building a new plant in the Ivanovo special economic zone to produce modern road construction equipment.

Since 1950, the Ivanovo machine-building plant “Avtokran” has produced almost 160 thousand Ivanovets truck cranes for customers from 70 countries. The Neurosoft company produces medical equipment that makes it possible to diagnose and treat complex diseases of the nervous, cardiovascular and musculoskeletal systems, the products of which are presented in 102 countries around the world. The Aquarius group of companies, the largest Russian developer, manufacturer and supplier of computer equipment and IT solutions in the field of information security, operates at the production site in the city of Shuya.

“All companies are ready to supply their products to China and compete on the international and Chinese markets,” noted Stanislav Voskresensky. He also said that for investors who want to come to the region, a special economic zone “Ivanovo” has been created with preferential conditions.

At an event at the Russian Embassy in China, Stanislav Voskresensky spoke about another advantage of the region – the developed scientific and educational sphere. Universities train specialists in the most important sectors: light industry, mechanical engineering, energy, chemical industry, agriculture, medicine. In total, 25,000 students study at Ivanovo universities, including more than 1,000 students from 40 countries. An additional 23,000 students are enrolled in secondary education programs.

The governor outlined the specialization of leading higher education institutions and particularly focused on joint projects with Chinese universities. Thus, ISUE is included in the top international ranking of BRICS universities. Together with the Hunan Institute of Technology, they are implementing an educational program in the field of relay protection and automation, and a number of projects in the field of nanomaterials and nanoengineering are planned.

Over the past five years, ISUTU has implemented 200 scientific grants, including joint ones with China. The Ivanovo branch of the Russian-Chinese Scientific and Cultural Center operates on the basis of chemical technology, and in 2023 a Memorandum of Understanding was signed with the Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, which will intensify research and increase the number of scientific publications. Peking University, together with ISUTU, is conducting a series of scientific research in the field of chemistry and chemical technology, work is underway to create joint laboratories and research bases for the exchange of teachers and students.

Ivanovo State Polytechnic University also productively interacts with educational organizations in China. The scientific school for modeling and designing garments has long been training highly qualified specialists for the People’s Republic of China; university graduates work in a number of leading universities in China.

Stanislav Voskresensky particularly focused on the project that is being implemented in the Ivanovo region on the direct instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin – the creation of a world-class scientific and educational campus “Big Ivanovo Manufactory”. “Already in 2027, the campus will be ready to accept students from all over the world. Training is planned to be conducted in foreign languages. The campus together with Interdom will become the core of education in the region, including for foreign students. We will be happy to host our Chinese comrades and implement joint educational programs,” stressed Stanislav Voskresensky.

At the end, an informal conversation between the head of the region and Chinese business representatives took place, and a cooperation agreement was signed. On behalf of the Ivanovo region, the document was signed by the Director of the Agency for Promoting Investments in the Ivanovo Region, Yulia Tumanova, and on behalf of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce for the Import and Export of Engineering and Electronic Products – by the Director of the Eurasia Department, Shen Guofei. An agreement was also signed with the Chinese-Russian Enterprise Support and Development Union.

The delegation of the Ivanovo region to the People’s Republic of China also includes heads of the largest enterprises and leading universities. Their work program includes a visit to the Science Park of Tsinghua University and the Chinese Chamber of Commerce for the import and export of engineering and electronic products.
