A sentence has been handed down to the Rostix security guard who pushed a visitor down the stairs on Ligovsky Prospekt in St. Petersburg – April 26, 2024

A court in St. Petersburg sentenced a restaurant security guard who last winter pulled a drunk man down the stairs in the city center. The visitor died from his injuries a few days later.

The conflict occurred on December 10, 2023 at eleven o’clock in the evening in the Rostics restaurant on Ligovsky Prospekt, 49. A security guard dragged a drunken visitor lying on the floor by his jacket to the exit stairs and pushed him down, kicking him in the leg. The visitor rose to his feet and returned. Then the guard again grabbed him by the jacket and pushed him away, pressing his head against the railing of the stairs, and then pushed him down, causing the man to fall on the steps and hit the back of his head, the joint press service of the courts of St. Petersburg reported on April 26. The incident was captured on a surveillance camera.

According to the prosecution, the defendant performed official duties, but clearly exceeded his authority, although he should have foreseen the consequences of his actions. In addition, the prosecution believed that the security officer used violence out of personal hostility during the conflict, that is, without legal grounds.

The visitor was taken to the hospital in serious condition. And on December 12, he died at the Dzhanelidze Research Institute of Emergency Medicine from a closed craniocerebral injury.

The defendant partially admitted his guilt. The Kuibyshevsky District Court of St. Petersburg found him guilty of abuse of power, resulting in grave consequences (under Part 2 of Article 203 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The man was sentenced to 3 years in prison in a general regime colony and deprived of the right to engage in security activities for the same period. The court also ordered 500 thousand rubles in compensation for moral damages from Security Organization MSS-Satellite LLC in favor of the injured party.

The security guard was immediately taken into custody in the courtroom.
