The current governor of St. Petersburg, Alexander Beglov, confirmed that he will run for election as head of the city in the fall of 2024. He told reporters about this on April 26. The footage was shown on Rossiya-24 after broadcasting a video of the meeting between the mayor and the President of the Russian Federation.

According to him, veterans, blockade survivors and social activists had previously approached Beglov with questions about participating in the elections. He promised to consult with President Vladimir Putin. The opportunity arose just today, when the head of state arrived in St. Petersburg for the Council of Legislators.

“Today I asked Vladimir Vladimirovich if he has support for me to participate in the elections for governor of St. Petersburg. He said: “Yes, of course, I support it, but first of all, of course, it is the choice of the residents.” He wished me success and told me to work with the residents as much as possible. Therefore, today I have already decided to go to the elections for the governor of St. Petersburg,” Beglov said.

Fontanka wrote that Beglov began preparing for re-elections on April 16. According to our information, election headquarters have already begun to be formed. At the same time, there was no confidence that he would be the one to run in the elections. An interlocutor from United Russia spoke about the search for those who should ask the governor to run for a new term. Last time, representatives of the Public Chamber and veteran organizations made such a request.

In September 2024, gubernatorial and municipal elections are planned in St. Petersburg. They will take place over three days – the 6th, 7th and 8th. There will be no electronic voting.
