Victims and liquidators of the Chernobyl accident were remembered in Orel

Oryol residents today laid flowers at the monument to victims of radiation disasters. The event took place in the Oryol Chernobyl Heroes Square.

The event was attended by liquidators, members of their families, and schoolchildren.

The largest man-made disaster occurred on April 26, 1986. On this day, an explosion occurred at the fourth power unit of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. The explosion and subsequent fire caused a lot of radioactivity. In our country, more than 59 thousand square kilometers of territory in 14 regions were infected. Almost 8.4 million residents of Belarus, Ukraine and Russia were exposed to radioactive radiation.
