A rally was held in Tver in memory of the victims of radiation accidents and disasters and the 38th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident. Deputy Chairman of the Tver City Duma Alexey Aresenyev took part in the event.
On April 26, 38 years ago, an accident occurred at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. Thousands of citizens of the former Soviet Union took part in the elimination of this terrible man-made disaster, including many residents of the city of Tver and the Tver region. Every year, the memory of the fallen Tver residents is honored at a funeral meeting at the monument to the liquidators in the “Heroes of Chernobyl” park.
Today those who took part in the liquidation, their relatives and friends have gathered here. Deputy Chairman of the Tver City Duma Alexey Arsenyev thanked his fellow countrymen: “Since the accident, the word “Chernobyl” has become synonymous with unprecedented courage and heroism. Health to you and your loved ones. May none of the next generations ever have to face such a tragedy. Nuclear energy is the future and now everything is being done to make it safe.”
