Surgeons at the St. Petersburg State Pediatric Medical University discovered a bullet in the body of a 14-year-old teenager that had been in the soft tissues of the neck for five years. This was reported by Rossiyskaya Gazeta with reference to the press service of the university.

The bullet, it is specified, was discovered by accident. The boy was brought to the northern capital from the Tula region for routine treatment with a diagnosis of keeled breasts. At the university, specialists examined the boy using a multislice computed tomograph. And it was during the diagnosis that the doctors saw a foreign body. As it turned out, five years ago another child shot a schoolboy with an air pistol.

As Vladislav Avramenko, head of surgical department No. 2 (traumatology) of the Pediatric University clinic, said, the bullet, which was in the soft tissues, did not pose a danger to the boy. He noted that a capsule had formed around the foreign body, which is also called a foreign body granuloma. The specialist emphasized that such cases do happen.

– Of course, a bullet is rare. But a small stone, a tiny piece of glass can hit your foot if a child steps on it. If you do not pay attention to the discomfort in time, there is a risk that the wound will heal, but the foreign body will remain, Avramenko noted.

To date, the operated patient is doing well. In addition, the intervention will not affect the treatment of his main disease, with which he came to St. Petersburg.
