Today, many organizations are beginning to understand how important it is to take care of the health of employees, their physical and psychological well-being. After all, every day an employee spends on sick leave promises financial costs to the company.

A week is taking place in the Novosibirsk region to popularize best practices for promoting health in the workplace. Head of the department for the development, implementation and monitoring of corporate health promotion programs at the Regional Center for Public Health and Medical Prevention, Candidate of Medical Sciences Elena Bezprozvannaya told Gorsayt about the main directions of corporate health programs.

Corporate programs are designed to organize a person’s workplace in such a way that it helps combat risk factors for the development of non-communicable diseases. Let’s take, for example, a team of teachers. There, the nutrition of employees is most often disrupted, despite the fact that there is a canteen where schoolchildren have lunch. However, during this time, teachers must monitor their students. Then they spend most of the day in static positions – either sitting at a table or standing at a blackboard. Physical activity turns out to be inadequate. On top of everything else, there is a constant state of stress due to responsibility for children.“, noted the specialist.

In such teams, the most common areas of corporate programs are the organization of healthy nutrition, normalization of physical activity during the day, and the fight against stress and psycho-emotional burnout syndrome in the workplace.

The reasons for this are easy to figure out. You can invite the Health Center, which will assess each employee, determine the main and additional risk factors and, in general, create a profile of the team’s condition. Or you can find all preventive examinations, pull up data from the human resources department, occupational safety and health services – everything that exists in the organization. This needs to be analyzed and also drawn up the direction of preventive health work“, explained Elena Bezprozvannaya.

Recently, organizations have begun to use the Atria interactive platform. It was developed by the Central Institute of Preventive Medicine. With its help, you can complete a survey for both the employee and the manager.

After completing the survey, everyone will receive recommendations on how to maintain their health, and the program will also create a health profile for the entire team and give advice on which areas to choose depending on the nature of the work.“, the expert added.

Based on the results of the selection, a program of activities will be drawn up for each area.

For example, the medical direction may be represented by vaccination against tick-borne encephalitis, coronavirus infection or influenza. It is possible to carry out treatment in rehabilitation centers, sanatoriums, and dispensaries. As for healthy eating, there are also many different activities. These could be lectures on tasty and healthy food or evenings of proper nutrition, when employees cook something themselves and share tips.“- said the specialist.

Prevention of low physical activity is the most common and least expensive direction. Most often, experts recommend morning exercises before starting work, periodic physical education sessions and intra-corporate competitions.

“You can also take part in the Russian Background Walking Championship “Man Walking”. To do this, employees just need to install a special program on their phone, register and take part in the competition,” added Elena Bezprozvannaya.

An area that is also quite often used by employers is the fight against smoking. Specialists educate workers about the harm caused by tobacco use, how to quit it, and what help can be provided.

The Regional Center for Public Health and Medical Prevention regularly conducts seminars and classes, including on-site sessions. When we arrive in the area, the municipality gathers the heads of enterprises located on its territory. We talk about what a corporate employee health promotion program is, how to implement it, and how we can help. Thus, we hope that soon all employers in the Novosibirsk region will be interested in preserving and maintaining the health of the most valuable resource in the organization – their employees“, concluded Elena Bezprozvannaya.
