Russia has granted temporary asylum to Kyrgyz citizen Askar Kubanychbek, who was convicted in his homeland due to participation in a special military operation (SVO). This was reported by the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation Irina Volk in her Telegram channel.

“My colleagues from the Main Directorate for Migration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia reported that on April 18, Askar’s documents were accepted for granting temporary asylum on the territory of the Russian Federation. If there are grounds, the issue of admission to citizenship of our country will be decided in the prescribed manner,” Volk wrote.

As a representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs clarified, the young man lived in Russia even before the start of the SVO and worked in the film industry. In 2022, he volunteered to go to the combat zone. When he returned to Kyrgyzstan due to his father’s illness, he was subjected to criminal prosecution and accused of being a mercenary.

Former American intelligence officer Edward Snowden said that he stayed in Russia because he had no other options.
