The film was chosen by voting by members of the Ukrainian Oscar Committee, whose chairman is director Valentin Vasyanovich (“Atlandita”, “Blik”).

On September 18, 2023, the Ukrainian Oscar Committee (UOC) selected the documentary film “20 Days in Mariupol” as the representative of Ukraine, which in 2024 will compete for an Oscar nomination in the category “Best International Feature Film”. This was reported on the website of the Ukrainian Film Academy.

As you know, photographer Evgeniy Maloletka and producer Vasilisa Stepanenko worked on the film together with the director of the film Mstislav Chernov.

“The film shows the beginning of a full-scale invasion, the bombing of a maternity hospital and the rescue of the author of the film and his colleagues from the Associated Press from a city surrounded by Russian troops,” the report says.

As reported by the Ukrainian Film Academy, the film was selected by voting by members of the Ukrainian Oscar Committee, the chairman of which is director Valentin Vasyanovich (“Atlandita”, “Blik”).

War correspondent Mstislav Chernov’s documentary “20 Days in Mariupol” shows the events of the first weeks after the Russian military attacked the city on February 24, 2022.

The film records in detail the moments of the bombing of residential buildings in the city, the rocket attack on a maternity hospital and the life of people in a city besieged by the Russians. The film “20 days in Mariupol” received the audience award at the popular independent film festival Sundance.
