Rapper Walkie committed suicide in Krasnodar due to war and mobilization

--

In Krasnodar on Friday, rap artist Ivan Petunin, who performed under the stage name Walkie, committed suicide. He left a video message in which he stated that he was not ready to go to war and kill people. Walkie jumped out of his apartment window.

In a video he recorded before committing suicide, Walkie says that he made a fatal decision due to the announcement of partial mobilization in Russia. He also said that all seven months since the beginning of Russia’s armed invasion of Ukraine “it was very painful for him.” Walkie adhered to pacifist positions and did not want to take up arms. The singer said that he has a deferment from conscription for health reasons, but he does not believe that the military registration and enlistment offices will take deferrals into account, and believes that partial mobilization will soon turn into full. “We’ve all been held hostage by the same maniac,” Walkie said.

Before his death, the rapper also sent a text message to his girlfriend, urging her to keep the memory of him and remember that he always lived in good conscience.

Ivan Petunin was 27 years old. Half a day before his death, he posted his new album “Walk Out Boy 3” on the Internet.
