According to recent statistics from a radio audience study from Kantar Emor, the socio-legal Radio 4 continues to hold a leading position among Russian-language radio stations in Estonia both in the number of listeners (day, week, month) and in the share of their time spent on the wave.

Over the past six months – from October 2023 to March 2024 – Radio 4 was listened to by 37,000 people a day, which is 3,000 (+9%) more than in the previous period. This is the highest figure in the last two years. The weekly audience also grew, amounting to 81,000 (+3%) listeners (versus 79,000 in the previous period).

Radio 4 had 94,000 monthly listeners, up 1,000 (+1%) on the previous period. The number of listeners on weekdays increased by 1,000 (62,000 versus 61,000, +2%), and on weekends by 4,000 (39,000 versus 35,000, +11%).

Among the regions, the most noticeable increase in listeners was in Virumaa – by 5,000 people (29,000 versus 24,000, +21%). Also, positive growth (+2000 people) was observed in the age group from 35-49 years (21,000 versus 19,000, +11%).

Radio 4 increased the share of listener time spent on the wave, which is 4.5% (versus 4.4% in the previous period), securing its leadership among all Russian-language radio stations in Estonia.

In second place in popularity among radio stations broadcasting in Russian is SKY Radio (73,000 listeners per week). Third place is shared by “People’s Radio” and “Super Radio” – the former “Russian Radio” (58,000 listeners per week each). In terms of the share of time spent on the wave among Russian-language commercial radio stations, the first place is occupied by “People’s Radio” and “Super Radio”: both radio stations have 1.5% each.

The most popular radio station in Estonia is still Vikerraadio, broadcasting in the state language. It leads both in the number of daily listeners (121,000 people), weekly (233,000 people) and monthly (261,000 people). Next came Raadio Elmar (83,000 listeners per day/217,000 listeners per week/253,000 listeners per month) and Star FM (59,000 listeners per day/200,000 listeners per week/242,000 listeners per month).
