Kazakhstan and Vietnam suspend acceptance of Mir cards

Credit organizations in Kazakhstan and Vietnam, which previously accepted Mir cards, followed Turkish banks and stopped working with the Russian payment system. This follows from the Izvestia material.

“The call center of the Vietnamese BIDV reported that they no longer accept cards of the Russian payment system Mir <�…> BIDV continues to service VISA, Mastercard, Western Union, JCB, UnionPay cards, but the Mir payment system is not in this list. The People’s Bank of Kazakhstan (Halyk Bank) also stopped accepting Mir cards. It is specified that Russian cards are not serviced either through terminals or through ATMs.

Against the backdrop of sanctions from the West, the international payment systems Visa and Mastercard decided to stop working in Russia, citizens of the Russian Federation also lost the opportunity to make purchases abroad. Foreign banks started working with the Russian payment system (PS) “Mir”. Cards of this payment system were accepted in 10 countries of the world, including Turkey. Russia is actively negotiating with the countries of the Middle East about the possibility of using Mir cards, but it was reported that the United States could interfere with this.
